Do I need an Anti-virus program?
You sure do!
If your system is unprotected and you go on the internet, your system will be infected within ten minutes. You may not even know it’s infected. Your system could be a zombie doing the bidding of some no-good hacker, or stealing your passwords!

What do I need?
We recommend an Anti-virus program that is quick and light-weight, like Nod32, AVG or Avast. They won't bog down your system and they scan your computer quickly.

Stay away from big “Security Suites” that say they “Do it all”. Examples of this would be Norton or McAfee Internet Security. These programs slow your computer down to a crawl.

The most important thing to do is to update you protection daily! Without this no anti-virus program will keep you safe.

What about Spyware?
Spyware or Malware can be just as bad as a virus on your computer. You need a good Spyware scanner to keep your computer running smoothly.

The best one we have found is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program. It works.

You can down load it for free and it will fix just about any Malware problem you have.
You can buy the paid version and it is even better.
Find it here:

In Conclusion
The combination of a good Anti-virus program like Node32 or Avast and Malware protection will keep your computer running smooth and safe.

Remember, no one program does it all. You need regular preventive maintenance and a collection of tools to keep your computer humming along at peak performance.

"Computer Masters does a wonderful job at helping me with all of my computer needs. Rich handles the computer network system for my dental office.

He has done everything from building the computers for our office, to the installation and networking of the system, to the maintenance and repairs.

Penny really has a knack for website design, and she has fun with it at the same time. Rich and Penny are always available when you need them.

Not only can they come out and fix problems, but Rich can often resolve matters over the phone. Now, that's what I call service. I don't know what I would do without them!"

Computer Security

Topics discussed here include:

Symptoms of an infected computer
Anti-virus programs
A word about Spyware
What about Firewalls?
Is my computer infected?
Here are a few warning signs
you can look out for:
  • All of a sudden your system seems to run slow or sluggish
  • You keep getting Pop-up ads that you can't get rid of
  • You keep getting re-directed to websites that you don't want to go to
  • Your home page is changed to some weird Search page you never heard of
  • The Icon for your Anti-virus program has disappeared!
Your computer could be infected and you may not know it.
The good old days of a virus just crashing your machine and making rude remarks at you are over.
Today’s virus and Trojans want your system to keep running so they can use your system.
They'll make a slave of your system to send out spam or they let you keep using you system so they can collect your keyed-in data such as User Names, Passwords, Account numbers, and Credit card numbers.
If you suspect your system is infected call us right away. Don't wait! You could be loosing more than just some productivity.

The Firewall

You must also have a Firewall protecting your internet connection.

This is kind of like a two-way mirror for your internet connection. You can see out but no one can see in.

Without this, Hackers and other bad guys can see your computer or network over the net.

There are two kinds of Firewalls.

  1. First, there's a “hardware” firewall called a “router”. This is a box you install between the internet modem and your computer(s). Many routers have a network switch or hub built-in and save you the cost of having to buy a separate one. The advantage of a hardware firewall is that it won’t slow down your computer like a software firewall does, and they usually work better. They also let you share your internet connection with other computers in your office.

  2. Second is the “software” firewall. An example of this is the firewall built into “Windows” or "Norton Internet Security”. These block incoming connections to your computer and make your system run real S-L-O-W. They often block things that you want, like shared printers or shared drive on your other computer if they are not configured correctly.

The bottom line is to make sure you
have a firewall installed on every computer!
